Benign Lesions
While detection of malignant liver tumors is of obvious importance, the high prevalence of benign focal liver lesions (estimated to be in the range of 20% in the general adult population) makes precise characterization equally important, e.g. hemangioma, adenoma (malignant transformation possible) and focal nodular hyperplasia (FNH)
More accurate imaging may also have economic consequences, as unnecessary surgery can be avoided.
